PSEB Hosts Recognition Ceremony Highlighting Transformative IT Industry Initiatives

Islamabad, January 29, 2025 – Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) organized a prestigious Recognition Ceremony to celebrate the achievements of individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed to advancing Pakistan’s IT industry. The ceremony, held in Islamabad, was graced by esteemed guests, with Secretary IT & Telecom, Mr. Zarrar Hasham Khan, as the Chief Guest, and PSEB’s CEO, Mr. Abu Bakar, delivering the opening remarks.   This event highlighted the successes of key PSEB initiatives, including capacity-building projects such as Call Center Certifications, GDPR Compliance Training, TechLift BootCamp, Internship Program, and Certifications of IT Professionals. These programs have equipped Pakistan’s workforce and businesses with the skills necessary to compete globally, positioning the country as a rising leader in the global IT sector.   In his remarks, Mr. Abu Bakar reflected on PSEB’s ongoing mission, stating: “PSEB is driven by a singular mission: to accelerate the growth of Pakistan’s IT exports. We have introduced and implemented impactful initiatives that have created measurable change. From human capital development and infrastructure enhancements to international marketing and partnerships, our strategy ensures that every segment of the IT industry thrives.”   The Secretary of IT, Mr. Zarrar Hasham Khan, commended PSEB’s efforts, saying: “PSEB has truly recognized the importance of human capital in shaping the future of Pakistan’s IT industry and has taken remarkable steps to enhance it. These efforts are creating a workforce that is both skilled and competitive, paving the way for Pakistan to become a global tech destination.”   During the ceremony, participants and firms were presented with awards and certificates for completing trainings in GDPR compliance, emerging technologies, and TechLift BootCamp. These recognitions underscore the importance of meeting international standards and fostering innovation within the IT sector.   PSEB has been instrumental in driving the growth of Pakistan’s IT sector through initiatives like IT Parks, Software Technology Parks, e-Rozgaar Centers, training programs, international marketing, and strategic partnerships. These efforts have significantly contributed to achieving $7.35 billion in IT export remittances from July 2022 to November 2024. Recently, Pakistan achieved a landmark milestone by becoming the first country to implement the Digital FDI Initiative by the World Economic Forum and the Digital Cooperation Organization. This bold move positions Pakistan as a trailblazer in attracting cross-border digital investments, with plans to host the annual Digital FDI Forum, establishing Islamabad as the Davos of DFDI and a global hub for dialogue on digital economic growth and innovation.   The event concluded with a group photo and refreshments, symbolizing the collective vision driving Pakistan’s IT sector forward.

Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025 Passed: A Historic Leap Toward a Digital Future

Pakistan has officially passed the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025, marking a significant step towards a transformative, tech-driven future for the country. This landmark legislation is set to revolutionize the nation’s economy, governance, and society by embracing digital solutions that foster efficiency, innovation, and inclusivity.   At the core of this initiative is the goal to establish a seamless, tech-enabled digital governance system. Citizens will be able to access government services and documents via their mobile phones, reducing the need for physical queues and making public sector services more efficient and transparent. This transformation will not only improve service delivery but will also empower citizens with easy access to essential services.   The Act also lays the foundation for a digital economy that encourages innovation and entrepreneurship, positioning Pakistan as a global competitor in the tech space. By enhancing the Ease of Doing Business, the legislation will make it easier for entrepreneurs to operate in Pakistan, while also creating new job markets in sectors like AgriTech, FinTech, EdTech, and HealthTech. These sectors are expected to drive growth and unlock new opportunities for both businesses and individuals.   Additionally, the Digital Nation Pakistan Act aims to build a digital society that empowers citizens through access to digital tools and platforms for communication, learning, and collaboration. This will help create a more connected and inclusive society, enabling Pakistanis to thrive in the digital era.   A key component of the Act is the establishment of the National Digital Commission (NDC), which will be led by the Prime Minister and consist of key ministers and departmental heads. The NDC will ensure alignment across federal and provincial levels and guide the implementation of the digital transformation strategy. The Pakistan Digital Authority will play a central role in creating a comprehensive Digital Nation Masterplan, which will include sectoral transformation plans aimed at modernizing Pakistan’s economic and social structures.   The passage of the Act aligns Pakistan with the UN Global Digital Compact, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to an open, inclusive, and sustainable digital future. Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja expressed her optimism about the Act’s impact, noting that it will not only simplify citizens’ lives but will also enable the government to make more informed decisions, unlocking the potential of key sectors like agriculture, finance, education, and health.   The Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025 represents a historic step towards creating a digital-first Pakistan. With the collective effort of the government, businesses, and citizens, Pakistan is poised to lead in the digital revolution, ensuring that the benefits of this transformation reach every corner of society.
